The best way to get from Mahe to La Digue

The Cat Cocos ferries are the best way to get from Mahe to La Digue! Now boasting a fleet of five high-speed catamarans, you can be sure your inter-island crossing will be smooth from start to finish.

Like all their vessels, they offer a choice of Economy and Business Class cabins, split over two to three decks. Economy class passengers can travel in the fully air-conditioned Coco de Mer Cabin on the main deck or outside on the Island Hopper Upper Deck. Business Class passengers have their own dedicated cabin - Lazio Lounge.


Boarding Process

When travelling from Mahe to La Digue, you should arrive at the Mahe Jetty at least 1 hour in advance, giving you time to check in your luggage. You will receive a digital Boarding Pass by email approximately 24-48 hours before departure. If, for some reason, you do not have your boarding pass when you get to the jetty, simply visit the Creole Travel Services jetty office for assistance.

Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure at the Cat Cocos Berth, with the Boarding Gate closing 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

During the short stopover in Praslin, passengers travelling from Mahe to La Digue will usually remain on the same vessel. Occasionally, it may be necessary to transfer from one ferry to another. Should this happen, don't worry; the crew will transfer your luggage between vessels. The same applies to the journey back from La Digue to Mahe, where the crew would transfer your luggage to the Praslin to Mahe ferry.

Baggage Allowance

Every passenger (except infants) is allowed to bring one piece of carry-on baggage not exceeding 7kg with maximum dimensions of 50cm X 30 cm X 20cm. Any cabin baggage above this size will be considered ‘checked baggage’ and will be stowed in the cargo compartment.

In addition, each paying passenger is allowed the following checked baggage:

It’s possible to travel from Mahe to La Digue and back the same day, but you’ll have limited time on the island.

Most La Digue accommodations are within walking distance of the jetty in La Passe, or a very short bicycle ride.
Bicycle rental is available right at the jetty. Ox-carts and a limited number of electric buggies are available for luggage transport. There are limited taxis on La Digue.


What should I do with my luggage if I’m only visiting La Digue for the day?

There is a paid luggage storage facility at the Mahe Jetty in Victoria, open daily from 07:00 to 18:00.
You can leave your large bags there and travel light to La Digue for the day. Note that there is no luggage storage at either the Praslin or La Digue jetties.
