Their high-speed catamaran Isle of La Digue Ferry departs La Digue at 14:15, arriving in Mahe at approximately 15:30. On Fridays and Saturdays, they operate slightly later departures from La Digue, making the Isle of La Digue Ferry the ideal solution for passengers looking for a hassle-free day-return service from Mahe to La Digue and vice versa.

Cat Cocos operates several modern high-speed catamarans on its Mahe-Praslin-La Digue route. When travelling from Mahe to La Digue or vice versa on the Cat Cocos Isle of Mahe Ferry or Isle of Praslin Ferry, you may need to change boats at Praslin. But don't worry; the Cat Cocos crew will transfer your luggage between vessels.

For the journey back from La Digue to Mahe, passengers travelling on the Isle of La Digue Ferry will remain on the boat while passengers from Praslin to Mahe get onboard.

CAT COCOS FERRY SCHEDULE

While the current Cat Cocos schedule runs up to and including 30th June 2024, looking at the previous months’ schedule, there has been little to no change in the timings of the ferry services. So you can use the current schedule to plan your trip from 1st July 2024 onwards.

Should a schedule change affect your booking, we will immediately inform you of the new timings. We offer alternative timings when a particular service is no longer operating. Where no alternatives exist, we will provide you with a refund.

In 2011, Cat Cocos launched its Isle of La Digue Ferry. The high-speed catamaran was introduced to offer passengers a more direct service from Mahe to La Digue. The ferry can carry up to 227 passengers and, like all Cat Cocos ferries, offers both Economy and Business class cabins. Economy class passengers can travel in the fully air-conditioned Coco de Mer Cabin on the main deck or outside on the Island Hopper Upper Deck. Business Class passengers have their own dedicated cabin - Lazio Lounge - on the upper deck.

A shared shuttle bus transfer to/from the Mahe, Praslin or La Digue ferry jetty is available to all Cat Cocos passengers (fees apply). Buses leave Mahe Airport up to 1 hour before the scheduled ferry departure time. Hotel pick-ups are approx. 45-90 minutes before departure (depending on which island you're on and the distance between your hotel and the jetty).

It is recommended to arrive at the jetty at least 1 hour in advance, giving you time to check in your luggage. You will receive Boarding Passes by email approx. 24 hours before departure. If, for some reason, you do not have your boarding pass when you get to the jetty, simply visit the Creole Travel Services office for assistance. Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure at the Cat Cocos Berth in Victoria, with the Boarding Gate closing 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Luggage Allowances
Each passenger is permitted 1 piece of carry-on/cabin baggage not to exceed 7kg, with maximum dimensions of 50cm X 30 cm X 20cm. Cabin baggage above this size will be considered 'checked baggage' and stowed accordingly.

In addition, each paying passenger is allowed the following  checked baggage:
  • Economy Class: Maximum allowance = 25kg
  • Business Class: Maximum allowance = 30kg
Multiple pieces are permitted as long as the total weight of all pieces does not exceed the maximum allowance. Excess Luggage will be charged at €3.00 per kilo.

Port fee

A Port Fee is applicable to all ferry departures from/to Mahe.
The one-way fee, which only applies to Adults (i.e. passengers aged 12 years and over), is being charged at €2.00 per ticket. For roundtrips, the fee is simply doubled.
The port fee is included in the Cat Cocos tickets price.

Just like its sister vessels, the Isle of la Digue Ferry has been built to the highest international standards. Designed by Incat Crowther and built by Richardson Devine Marine, this 26-metre high-speed catamaran is powered by two MTU 12V2000 M70 engines, each producing 1055hp @ 2100 rpm. Propulsion is via ZF gearboxes through to two 5-bladed propellers, with trim and ride control being managed by a Humphree active interceptor trim-tab system. The main internal deck seats up to 163 passengers, with another 48 economy seats on the outside upper deck and 16 business class seats. The Isle of La Digue is fully equipped with the latest safety equipment, including life jackets, life rafts, fire extinguishers and life rings, as well as GPS navigation and VHF Ship-to-Shore radio.

What is the cost of a ferry ticket from Mahe to La Digue?

Cat Cocos offers a choice of ferry ticket prices from Mahe to La Digue depending on the cabin/class you choose:
  • The cost of a Mahe to La Digue ferry ticket is €72 (one-way) for adults (Main Inside Cabin) and €42 (one-way) for children aged 2 to 11 years.
  • You can upgrade to the Upper Outside Deck for an additional €6 per adult/child or to Business Class for an extra €24 per adult and €18 per child.
  • A Port Fee of €2 (one-way) will be added to each adult ticket. Children and Infants are exempt.
  • A return ticket simply costs double the one-way ticket price.


How long is the journey from Mahe to La Digue by ferry?

The total journey time from Mahe to La Digue by ferry is 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Almost all ferry crossings from Mahe to La Digue route via Praslin, where the Cat Cocos ferry has a short stopover to allow passengers to disembark. Typically, the ferry stops in Praslin for approximately 15 minutes before making its way to La Digue, located just 15 minutes away. So, on average, the total journey time from Mahe to La Digue by ferry is 1hr 45mins, although this can sometimes be a little longer on busier days.
There is currently no non-stop crossing from Mahe to La Digue, with all trips going to Praslin first. However, on Saturdays and Sundays, Cat Cocos operates a non-stop service from La Digue to Mahe, taking just 75 minutes!
The recommended check-in time is an hour before departure on Mahe and at least 30 minutes before departure on La Digue.
Boarding starts 30 minutes before departure, with the gate closing approximately 5 minutes before the ferry leaves.
